Position Summary: We are looking for a detail-oriented individual with a minimum of 3 years of Accounting/Bookkeeping experience. The candidate must know general accounting principles and be proficient with Microsoft Excel. 

Location: Remote (Must reside in Virginia, DC or Maryland)

Salary: $24 - $26/hour

Work Hours: 30 hours a week (set consistent schedule, must be available Thursdays at 10 am)

Responsibilities

  • Complete payments and controls expenses by receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices.
  • Reconcile processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances.
  • Charge expenses to accounts and cost centers by analyzing invoice/expense reports; and recording entries.
  • Pay vendors by monitoring discount opportunities, verifying federal ID numbers, scheduling and preparing checks, and resolving purchase orders, contracts, invoices, or payment discrepancies and documentation.
  • Ensure credit is received for outstanding memos.
  • Issue stop-payments or purchase order amendments.
  • Maintain accounting ledgers by verifying and posting account transactions.
  • Verify vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions.
  • Maintain records by filing documents.
  • Protect the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
  • Accomplish accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 years of proven experience as an accountant and/or bookkeeper. 
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles, fair credit practices, and collection regulations.
  • Proven ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records
  • Data entry skills along with a knack for numbers.
  • Hands-on experience in operating spreadsheets and accounting software.
  • High-school Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration
  • Experience with E-Automate a plus
